Ronald F Young MD was born in Buffalo, New York, USA. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Buffalo and the degree of Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Young is a Board Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Former Professor and Chairman of Neurosurgery at the University of California at Irvine and Professor of Surgery in Neurosurgery at the University of California Los Angeles Dr. Young is the author or co-author of over 100 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and over 80 chapters in medical textbooks. He was one of the pioneers in the use of Deep Brain Stimulation for the treatment of a variety of medical conditions, most notably chronic pain and movement disorders. He was also a pioneer in the use of the Gamma Knife in the treatment of conditions such as Trigeminal Neuralgia and Essential Tremor.

Dr. Young was honored with the Congress Medal of the German Neurosurgical Society and was a recipient of the Irving Heyman Award in Neurology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Young also received the Elizabeth Crosby Medal from the University of Michigan and the Lauds and Laurels Award from the University of California. Dr. Young has been Visiting Professor at Universities in Germany, Switzerland, France, Italy, and Canada as well as several universities in the United States.

Dr. Young is former President of the Society of University Neurosurgeons, The Western Neurosurgical Society and the Southern California Neurosurgical Society. He has been recognized in Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World as well as Best Doctors in America.

Currently retired from the active practice of Neurosurgery, Dr. Young is pursuing a second career in freelance writing. His major area of interest relates to the exploding field of Cannabis including both the business and health aspects of that unusual plant as well as a variety of other subject areas. Dr. Young’s hobbies include Contract Bridge, photography and world travel, particularly to France where many years-long pursuits of the French language remain challenging.
