Summary

Cannabis plants can be used mostly medically or recreationally and can have genetics which are cannabis sativa, cannabis indica, cannabis ruderalis, or hybrids. We will go over our chart and discuss the different strains of weed and their effects. We will also look at Sativa Versus Indica, what’s the difference between the two different kinds of weed.

Sativas, Indicas, and Ruderalis can be used medicinally. Ruderalis nugs cannot be used recreationally due to low or no THC content. As far as differences, Cannabis Sativa is believed to be more invigorating while Indicas are more relaxing. However, recent research suggests it’s not really that simple, and calling these plants Indicas or Sativas is actually based more on the appearance that growers notice. The Cannabis Indica plant appears to have a shorter growing season, tends to be a shorter, squat plant with wide leaves. It may grow better in cooler places than would a Sativa. Sativa is taller with a longer growing season comfortable in warmer climates.

Sativa Marijuana Plant Appearance and Growing and More

The Sativa marijuana plant is tall, growing from 8 to 15 feet high, with long arms with plenty of space for air to circulate. The fan leaves are light green and are long and thinner than that of other types. The buds likewise are better ventilated and taller than those of cannabis Indica. Cannabis Sativa is expected to have a THC level which is high with a low CBD level and thus exhibit marked stimulation and low relaxation.

Sativas will take longer to grow and produce lesser but more powerfully stimulating yields. They may take 10 to 16 weeks to grow, far longer than the growth period for Indica plants. Sativas grow well close to the equator. Therefore these photoperiodic plants will need a long growing season of up to 16 weeks. The long, thin pot leaves need time to produce their high THC content. The Sativa bud strain can flourish in fairly warm to hot weather.

Your Sativa high is more stimulating and energizing than Indica. It will give you energy and spark creativity. You might plan socialization, artistic pursuits, listening to music, and other active endeavors for your high time. You may even plan romantic alone time with a significant other. Your sensations will be heightened.

Medical benefits of Sativa include improved energy and concentration for issues like depression and ADHD, and reduced pain and inflammation. Since Sativas are more likely than Indica to produce anxiety, you want to avoid using it for anxiety disorders, though it may be great for depression not complicated by anxiety. Sativas can give you pain relief without making you feel lazy. You can use it for musculoskeletal pain conditions like fibromyalgia, without worrying about needing to sink into the couch or go to sleep. You may be able to continue working while using your medical marijuana.

Cannabinoids and Terpenes

Cannabinoids are the constituents of cannabis which bind to the cannabinoid receptors and have other effects in the body. The most well known of these are THC and CBD. You can see that the Sativa Dominant Tangerine Dream has high THC, low but not absent CBD, as well as terpenes like D-Limonene which produce the lemon taste. It also has myrcene which boosts the effects of weed. Some advanced smokers boost myrcene content of their experience by consuming a mango 45 minutes before smoking their favorite bud strain.

Indica Marijuana Plant Appearance and Growing and More

Your Indica buds leaf is broad and dark, coming from a wide, squat plant that grows two to six feet tall. The buds are dense, compact, smaller looking than your Sativa bud. Your Indica is expected to have lower THC and stronger CBD content. Your flowering time is only six to eight weeks and your yield is higher compared to Sativa yield. You will expect photoperiodic strains unless you will be mixing its genetics with cannabis ruderalis to produce an auto-flowering hybrid. Indica plants are good for anxiety and pain. Indica’s can grow in cooler climates than Sativa.

The Indica high is slower onset and provides a powerful relaxation, appetite increase, and makes you sleepy. There is a strong body high and couchlock, feeling like you are part of the couch. These strains can be good for more relaxing and lazy activities.

Indicas can be used for pain and in general, the relaxation effect can make it more suitable for intractable pain than Sativa. However, a powerful Indica may put you to sleep so you may not want to use it when you have to work or drive. Indicas can also treat anxiety. The side effect of sleepiness and couchlock may make it unsuitable for depression not complicated by anxiety.

Hybrids allow you to mix the benefits of Indica and Sativa, or to mix these two with the properties of ruderalis which include the ability to autoflower (flower regardless of lighting schedule) and high CBD plus lower THC content.
