Plus CBD Oil CBD Review

Our Rating: A+, excellent. Should you buy this product, yes or no?  Yes.
Plus CBD was nice enough to send us samples, so they get a lot of points for that. I didn’t wait till time to write the review to dig in because I was hungry, and they sent gummies. The gummies work for sure, but there was a little concern with how much I can tell it’s working. I can tell almost immediately. It’s not supposed to have any psychoactive effect but I did initially get a bit of a tingling sensation. This stopped happening by day 2, but it may be something to watch out for if you take psychoactive medications whose levels might be increased by concomitant use of CBD. This doesn’t mean it has too much THC as the labs show for sure that it is less than 0.3% THC. Be aware however that CBD can increase or decrease the levels of other drugs you are taking so check with your doctor to be certain that it is safe to take CBD with your medications. We are going to comb through Plus CBD’s website, look for information online, and finally test the product ourselves.

Plus CBD is a very promising company so far as we can see and have a wide variety of environmentally friendly products. They say their products come from agricultural hemp, which is a term we have not seen before. Most CBD products come from industrial hemp which is a low-THC form of cannabis Sativa. They claim it is ‘not unlawful’ to ship these products around the United States. This is a good sign, they choose their wording carefully. They didn’t even say it was ‘legal’, that said it was not unlawful and there’s a difference. It means they are listening to counsel. They will even provide a signed legal opinion for those who are unsure of the legality of using CBD in their jurisdiction. Their products are sold with varying methods of delivery. They have gummies and sprays that work immediately, as well as topical products.

Plus CBDs website is in a league of its own. It’s a true learning resource for CBD. Let’s hope they didn’t just spend all their money on the website. So far, the product seems to be very effective but we want to get every opinion we can on it.

Plus CBD’s hemp is not sourced in the United States but comes from Europe. This is a negative for us but they do at least provide an explanation. According to their website, regulations in the US make it difficult to grow agricultural hemp here. But, plenty of companies get their hemp from states like Colorado, so we don’t find that to be a clear explanation. Also, they call their hemp ‘agricultural hemp’ while most companies call theirs ‘industrial hemp’. We speculate this is done because the hemp originating in Europe would not fit the definition of industrial hemp contained in US law like the Farm Bill which allows for the production of products from industrial hemp.

The parent company is CV Sciences. They appear to be an older, publicly-traded company, but we are having trouble finding the specific information on this company. We discovered finally the parent company started in 2010 and Plus CBD in 2012. They are possibly also a player in the marijuana industry. This is ‘old’ for CBD companies since they are all relatively new.

Description of Plus CBD Oil

Plus CBD Oil prices and products

CBD Balm, extra strength

This is a balm to be used topically.  It has a great scent of peppermint and may give a slight tingling sensation when used. The peppermint potentiates the effect of the CBD. The only drawback we can see for this product is that it is not to be eaten. We prefer to put on our skin things which are so safe, you can eat it. A general heuristic we use is ‘if it can’t go in you, don’t put it on you’, but we will relax this rule for now. We have used it, and it is delightful to use. I would suggest they make it edible because children and even adults are gonna try to eat this stuff. It smells like food.

Cost: $ $44.16

For 100 mg of CBD, I would say this is pricey. However, the balm contains other therapeutic ingredients so the price is not prohibitive necessarily. But again, you can easily use 100 mg of CBD in one day, that much in one day can be costly.

Ingredients:

  • Hemp oil (100 mg of CBD, aerial hemp extract)
    Plus CBD Oil CBD, terpenes, healthy fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins are all contained within the hemp oil extract. This is the main ingredient and unlike many balms on the market, this balm contains enough CBD to get a dose that is therapeutic for the amelioration of non-medical pain, anxiety, and sleeplessness.
  • Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond Oil)
    Sweet Almond oil is known for producing an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin without clogging pores. It contains healthy fatty acids (monounsaturated), vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin E, and minerals like zinc.
  • Cera Alba (Beeswax)
    Beeswax fights bacteria and viruses as well as having anti-inflammatory effects. It is the medicine the bees make. They don’t want it to spoil or be eaten by bacteria so it contains antibiotics and antiviral substances. It has long been used for its skin benefits.
  • Candelilla/Jojoba/Rice Bran Polyglyeryl-3 Esters
    This is an emulsifier and stabilizer.
  • Glyceryl Stearate
    This is an edible stabilizing agent. Again, you can’t eat Plus CBD Balm but it does contain edible ingredients, which is a good sign.
  • Cetearyl Alcohol
    Fatty alcohol used as a stabilizer.
  • Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate
    A food additive used as a stabilizer.
  • Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil
    Peppermint oil can help with bumps and other types of skin inflammation. It also has anti-bacterial properties. Finally, it activates and desensitizes cold receptors in the skin, producing pain relief and reducing inflammation. Another algorithmic heuristic we use is hot=inflammation, cold=anti-inflammatory.
  • Tocopherol
    This is a form of vitamin E that functions as antioxidant reducing damage to the skin from free radicals.
  • Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract
    This is White Willow bark which our readers will know contain salicylic acid which is a potent anti-inflammatory similar to aspirin.
  • Equisetum Hiemale Extract
    This is an herb known as horsetail, long used by the Plateau Indians as a diuretic and for wound healing.
  • Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract
    This is a green tea extract. It has anti-aging effects on the skin.
  • Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil
    Safflower oil contains anti-inflammatory fatty acids and vitamin E which are both beneficial to the health of the skin.
  • Ascorbyl Palmitate
    This is a fat-soluble form of Vitamin C that helps in the immune defense of the cell.

CBD Balm ingredients

My experience:  I tried the CBD balm. It smells delicious, pity I can’t eat it. It goes on smoothly and doesn’t clog the pores. It tingles a bit from the peppermint. It was a pleasurable experiment. I can’t very well tell if I absorbed any of the CBD but experienced an anti-anxiety effect coming from one or more of the Plus CBD samples which were sent.

Original CBD Oil Balm

$30.56

CBD Spray Extra Virgin Olive Oil

$ 19.51 to $ 57.76

My experience:  I got the 1 oz formula, 100 mg of CBD. First off the labeling and packaging is on point. All of the text is visible and easy-to-read. There are a batch number and expiration date on the bottom, making it easy to get information about your batch. When you spray it, you will be surprised that you get more of a squirt than a spray mist which is just as well since this is a sublingual formula. The directions specify to shake well and use two sprays. This is equivalent to 12 mg of hemp oil, and 1 mg of cannabidiol. So probably you won’t get getting the majority of your CBD from this product. Once you get it in the mouth, you might hold it under the tongue for 30 secs before swallowing but this is not specified in the instructions. I’ve tried adding it to my coffee and that works well. It has a nice peppermint taste. The only drawback is that this is not a significant source of CBD from the 1 oz formulation. The 2 oz version has 3 mg of CBD per two sprays, so a little more but getting your CBD this way is still gonna get costly. You would want to go with the oil or capsules for your CBD. This makes a nice addition, particularly to add to food and drinks.

CBD drops (CBD hemp oil drops), regular strength, 250 mg CBD, 1 oz

These CBD drops contain 3 mg of CBD per half dropper and 10 mg of hemp oil. It’s peppermint flavored and fairly tasty. However, to get a therapeutic amount of CBD from these drops, you might be dipping into your pockets a bit. There is also a 2 oz. version and an extra-strength version which has more CBD.

Cost: $ $ 35.66 to $ 76.46

This is gonna get pricey if you use therapeutic doses of CBD but at least you’ve got the real deal.

Ingredients:
CBD drops supplement facts

  • Hemp oil (250 mg or 750 of CBD, aerial hemp extract)
    Plus CBD Oil CBD, terpenes, healthy fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins are all contained within the hemp oil extract.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil
    Olive oil has well-known benefits to heart health and in reducing inflammation throughout the body. It is an antioxidant protecting against free radicals which can cause organ damage.
  • Natural Goji Berry Flavoring
    Goji Berry is thought to improve heart health, blood sugar, and protect the liver. It’s an antioxidant that can have anti-aging effects. We do not know if there are levels used here that would be therapeutic because it’s only used as a flavoring. Placement on the ingredients list goes from highest to lowest so there might be a mid-range dose of Goji Berry in the oil.
  • Silica
    Silica can improve memory by making the connective tissue in the brain stronger. Plus CBD was careful to choose ingredients with health benefits even for the ‘inactive ingredients’.
  • Natural Blueberry Flavoring
    Blueberries are an all-around antioxidant which can improve heart function, cholesterol levels, and reduce cancer risk. This may sound too good to be true but the fact is that these are the foods we are made to eat, and they’re used to be a low incidence of cancer and diabetes, especially before the advent of agriculture. Evidence suggests hunter-gatherers rarely got cancers.
  • Monk Fruit (Siratia Grosvenor)
    Monk Fruit is a sweetener with no calories. It also has anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Monolaurin Quilliaja Saponaria
    This ingredient has anti-inflammatory properties, is used in cosmetics, and also as an expectorant.
  • Ascorbyl Palmitate
    This is a fat-soluble form of Vitamin C that helps in the immune defense of the cell.
  • Alpha-Tocopherol
    This is a form of vitamin E that functions as antioxidant reducing damage to the skin from free radicals.

My experience:  on researching the product, I was happy to see that even the ‘inactive ingredients’ were chosen for proven health benefits, which is a mark of truly thoughtful product design. We got the 1 fl oz peppermint-flavored Hemp Drops. These have 13 mg of hemp oil and 3 mg of CBD for a half dropper. This is somewhat surprising. You would expect the CBD drops to have more CBD but 6 mg per dropper is just enough to get a therapeutic dose. I guess that’s why it’s called Hemp Drops specifically. But by cost, this is also not the cheaper way to get your CBD from PlusCBD products. For that, you will have to look at the capsules. These drops are tasty however, so they can also be added to food. It’s a good idea to add this stuff to food because not just the CBD but the fatty acids and other components of hemp oil have ant-inflammatory effects and inflammation is often a reaction to the food we eat. So if we consume our food already containing our anti-inflammatory substances, that will offset the inflammation caused by the food.

Hold it under the tongue for 30 seconds then swallow. It has a nice peppermint taste and doesn’t taste too hemp-like. Nor does it smell like marijuana. We consider that a plus. These products won’t have you or your house smelling like weed.

CBD Raw Drops

$ 19.51 to $ 57.76

CBD Oil Softgels – Raw

$ 25.46 to $ 42.46

CBD Oil Softgels

15 mg Gold Formula

$ 16.96 to $ 76.46

These capsules are in the form of soft-gels. They contain hemp oil and olive oil. The oil is necessary because cannabidiol is fat-soluble and needs to be in an oil medium to be fully effective. Each soft gel contains 15 mg of CBD. This is definitely the product to use to get the high levels of CBD you may need to produce therapeutic effects. They have a sweet, syrupy smell but they don’t contain syrup. They contain olive oil, cellulose, and silica, aside from the hemp oil and cannabidiol. They are a nice, small size, easy to swallow. They go down easy. This is an impressive product.

CBD Oil Capsules

$ 25.46 to $ 59.46

CBD Oil Total Plant Complex Oral Applicators

$ 22.91 to $ 76.46

CBD Oil Gold Formula Oral Applicators

$ 36.51 to $ 135.96

CBD Oil Gummies

$ 33.96 to $ 55.21

These gummies contain no preservatives, no gelatin, no artificial sweeteners, no high-fructose corn syrup, and no artificial flavoring or color. They are well-designed.

Ingredients:

  • Organic Tapioca Syrup
    This is a sweetener often considered superior to high-fructose corn syrup.
  • Organic Cane Sugar
    This is a sweetener that is less processed than refined sugar.
  • Purified water
    Water which has been through a purification process to remove contaminants and additives.
  • Organic seaweed extract
    Seaweed extract is good for your thyroid and contains vitamins and minerals.
  • Citric acid
    Antioxidant which functions as a preservative.
  • Trisodium Citrate
    Natural Color and Flavors

My experience. I got the Cherry Mango flavor Hemp Gummies. One gummy contains 5 mg of CBD. This makes it possible to get a therapeutic amount from the gummies. The packaging is nice, all the information is readable. There is a somewhat-child proof lid. The gummies have a cherry and peppermint scent and flavor. They’re delicious. Not sure if the lack of information about calories means it doesn’t have any calories. This is probably the best gummies product we have reviewed. Other companies may have gummies which are essentially candy with a little added hemp oil. PlusCBD oil gummies have 5 mg of cannabidiol per gummy, that’s a lot cuz you can eat these things like candy and probably be none the worse for it. Cannabidiol is non-toxic. If you are tempted to eat too many, you’ll probably be fine. This is our favorite product from Plus CBD’s hands down.

Q&A about Plus CBD Oil

Is the endocannabinoid system important?
Yes. CB1 and CB2 receptors are found throughout the nervous system and they modulate various processes. Anandamide is an endogenous cannabinoid receptor agonist. Cannabidiol is known to affect cannabinoid receptors directly and/or indirectly.
Will CBD cause me to get high?
No.
Is it safe?
Cannabidiol has a remarkably low occurrence of side effects. Also, Plus CBD oil is seeking the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) certification because it is uniquely confident in the safety of its products. Only time will tell if this will pan out but it’s a good sign.
Is it legal?
Products containing agricultural hemp with less than 0.3% THC are sold throughout the United States and prosecution for having such a product is rare or non-existent; however, you should check the laws in your jurisdiction concerning the growing and use of agricultural hemp if you have concerns.
Is this pot?
Hemp products are not hash, marijuana, psychoactive cannabis, pot, or weed.

Conclusion

Grade:  A

Plus CBD oil is a great product with stringent standards of potency and purity. Packaging and labeling are top notches as well as flavoring and scent. The gummies are delicious and effective.

Glossary:

CBD:

CBD stands for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is one of more than 60 cannabinoids in industrial hemp. Cannabidiol affects the function of cannabinoid receptors like CB1 and CB2. It also binds to other receptors in the nervous system and the immune system.

CBDA is the raw form of CBD. Cannabidiol is activated by decarboxylation. This is done by heating cannabidiol to a specific temperature for a specific time period. Both CBD and CBDA have unique therapeutic effects. They have been found to have some anti-cancer activity, fight nausea, fight diarrhea, anti-psychotic activity, anti-seizure activity, and more.

Industrial hemp:

Industrial hemp refers to the seeds, stalks, leaves, full plant of Cannabis Sativa grown for industrial uses such as for making rope, paper, and fibers. Industrial hemp is less than 0.3% psychoactive THC and therefore has no psychoactive effect. CBD oil products are made from industrial hemp.

Plus CBD calls their hemp ‘agricultural hemp’, and we suppose this is because it comes from outside the United States. Likely, it is the same as industrial hemp but since that is a legal term for cannabis Sativa with low THC originating in the United States, they had to opt for a different term.
